The Nathaniel Russell House is America’s most important neoclassical dwelling. Located at 51 Meeting Street, the main house has been pristinely restored to its original 1808 grandeur. In 2017, however, new discoveries within the home’s kitchen and laundry outbuilding have shed new light on the daily lives of the enslaved people who lived and worked there. Grahame Long, Director of Museums for Historic Charleston Foundation talks about the ongoing project and some of the remarkable artifacts it has revealed.
