About Us


Our Mission

Empower older adults 50+ for personal independence, healthy aging, social connection and lifelong learning in the Lowcountry.

Lowcountry Senior Center and Waring Senior Center are owned by the City of Charleston and managed by Roper St. Francis Healthcare. The Lowcountry Senior Center, located on James Island, opened in May 2002. The Waring Senior Center is located on the campus of Bon Secours St. Francis Hospital in West Ashley and opened March 2019.

Become a Volunteer

Volunteering is a wonderful way to stay active and share your expertise. There are numerous ways to get involved at the Lowcountry Senior Center and Waring Senior Center. Volunteer opportunities are different at each senior center. Here are examples of the types of volunteer opportunities available. 

To inquire about volunteer opportunities or for more information, please fill out the form below. 
Volunteers of the Lowcountry Senior Center and Waring Senior Center are part of the Roper St. Francis Healthcare Volunteer Program. Volunteers must be at least 18 years old. The application process includes completing the application form, letter of recommendation, background screening and orientation training.
