James Patrick Sinnott Devereux was the Commanding Officer of the 1st Defense Battalion during the defense of Wake Island in December 1941, the battle which took place after the attack on Pearl Harbor. Maj. Devereux’s story is presented by Major Ralph “Stoney” Bates, Sr., USMC (Ret).
